Congratulations to Madrona Middle School for a well deserved

CA Distinguished School Award in 2009!

Good job everyone!  Keep up the good work students, faculty, staff and parents!

Ball Corporation is proud to be Madrona’s Adopt-a-School partner since joining the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s program in 2003.  Madrona and Ball won the Torrance Foundation’s 2008 Adopt-A-School Partnership of the Year Award.

Annual events together include:
·         Welcome Back Lunch for Staff & Faculty sponsored by Ball in September with good food and a launch of our can drive.

·         Relay for Life, American Can Society’s annual event in April, we put together a walking team between Ball & Madrona.  We’re on the track for 24 hours straight in support of Cancer survivors and in memory of loved ones.  We walk for 24 hours to remember Cancer never sleeps.  We have raffle prizes and giveaways for our team and Madrona designs a custom shirt each year for the event.  Come walk with us!

·         TEF Celebrate Education event every April we share a table at the Torrance Education Foundation’s annual fundraiser dinner.
·         Fieldtrips 6th graders walk each year in May to Ball’s Torrance aluminum can manufacturing plant for a tour and BBQ lunch.  The kids have a blast seeing how aluminum cans go from a coil of aluminum all the way to an aluminum can ready to ship and the staff enjoy having them at the plant.  Aluminum cans for recycling is the only admission cost!  The students, teachers and parents walk over to save the cost of a bus and to save the environmental cost of the fuel!  Madrona does Green!

·         Cans for Cash Aluminum Can Drive every year from Labor Day to November 15th in celebration of America Recycles Day.

·         Tech Trek scholarships with American Association of University Women Ball sponsors two 7th graders to a week long summer camp at a local college focusing on Math and Science curriculum for an experience of a life time on a college campus.  Senior management team also volunteers as readers for the award selection.

·         Madrona Pride Day campus clean up annually with Ball employees and their families helping with maintenance projects and cleaning classrooms and around campus.

·         Reflections Contest Ball management employees are honored to help judge Madrona’s entries.  Reflections is a National PTA arts recognition and achievement program for students that provides opportunities for students to express themselves creatively.     Participation and appreciation for the arts is the Reflections Program's goal. The excitement and enthusiasm the program generates for children, parents, schools and communities is unmatched.

·         Earth Day every April Ball Engineering Department employees participate with teachers and staff with presentations & activities focused on Earth Day and what students can do now for their future and the future of our planet.

·         Emergency Preparedness at Madrona is very important to Ball and we are committed to support the emergency preparedness efforts of the school.  Initially focusing on classroom supplies, repairing the container for emergency supplies and sponsoring the Staff and Faculty First Aid and CPR training in the fall of 2009.
·         Fundraisers are another way Ball enjoys supporting Madrona.  From Cookie Dough to TEF Prius drawing tickets, we love to participate!

Donations from Ball:
·         Brand new Flag Pole & new flags.
·         New Asphalt area to the north of F-Wing’s McCampbell Hall – no more dirt tracked into the classrooms, yeah!
·         Teacher Memorial area maintenance in memory of past teachers & faculty.
·         Donation towards the new stage in the cafeteria when the Jazz Band played at our Holiday event.
